York preview: Tattersalls Musidora Stakes (15.45)

Star of Seville can make the most of the weight she receives from Together Forever to land the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York today (15.45).

The John Gosden-trained filly shaped with bags of promise on debut as a juvenile at Newbury, and duly improved for the experience to open her account with a facile six length success over 1m at Doncaster.

Star Of Seville made all to win easing down, and it was a stunning performance which suggested she would have even more to offer this season and needed keeping firmly onside.

That view was confirmed on reappearance when Star Of Seville beat the highly regarded Ooty Hill by 3 1/4 lengths in a conditions’ contest over 1m 2f at Newbury.

The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade again made all and strode effortlessly clear in the hands of Frankie Dettori to score with tons in hand.

That run proved Star Of Seville’s effectiveness at today’s trip, and another plus is that her handler has a good record in the contest.

Gosden has won the race twice in the last five years, saddling Joviality to victory in 2011 and The Fugue in 2012.

Star Of Seville has a similar profile to that pair and can take this enroute to a crack at the Investec Oaks, for which she is currently a 9/1 shot with Coral.

Together Forever is trained by the all-conquering Aidan O’Brien, who is surprisingly still seeking his first winner in the contest.

The beautifully bred daughter of Galileo took time to get her act together last season, before rounding off the campaign with a hat-trick of successes.

In the last of those, Together Forever only had to be driven out to beat Agnes Stewart by 1/2 a length in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Ascot.

She has subsequent 1000 Guineas runner-up Lucida further two lengths behind in fifth, and that is strong form which sets the standard in this line-up.

The step up in trip should also suit Together Forever, who is currently 14/1 with Coral for the Investec Oaks, but she has to shoulder a penalty for that Group success and may struggle to concede 4lb to the highly promising and unexposed Star Of Seville.
