NFL: Denver Broncos fancied against longshot Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills begin a hard road towards their first NFL playoff berth since 1999, when they visit Denver Broncos on Sunday as 10-point road underdogs with Coral in Week 14.

The 7-5 Bills have surged back into playoff contention with a pair of impressive SU and ATS wins over New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, and enter the weekend in a six-way tie for the second and final AFC Wild Card spot.

However, despite their recent strong play, particularly on defense, Buffalo start Week 14 as distant 150/1 outsiders in the Super Bowl betting. This is a direct reflection of the difficult schedule they face in the final four weeks of the regular campaign.

Following their tilt with Denver, the Bills return home to take on Super Bowl favourites Green Bay Packers, before hitting the road for matchups with Oakland Raiders and red-hot New England Patriots.

Buffalo are 2-0 SU in their last two against Denver and bring the NFL’s fifth-best pass defense and league-leading 48 sacks to Mile High against Denver and their MVP-candidate QB Peyton Manning.

The 9-3 Broncos have won two straight, but are 2-3 ATS in their last five and a mediocre 3-3 ATS at home this season.

San Diego Chargers (8-4) will be looking to gain ground on Denver in the AFC West, when they welcome the 9-3 Patriots on Sunday night as 3.5-point home underdogs.

The Chargers enter December in control of the top AFC Wild Card, but like the Bills, face stiff competition that they must rise to if they want a playoff place. San Diego have still to face the Pats, Broncos, San Francisco and Kansas City.

A win over New England, combined with a Denver loss to Buffalo, would move the Chargers into a tie with the Broncos atop the AFC West and result in a tasty showdown between these division rivals next weekend in San Diego.

However, the Chargers must first get past the Pats, whom they have beaten SU just once in their last six meetings, 2-4 ATS.

New England are coming off a 26-21 loss to Green Bay last weekend, ending a seven-game winning streak, but remain firmly in control of their playoff destiny, two games ahead of the Bills and Miami atop the AFC East, and in first place overall in the conference.

Miami Dolphins (7-5) will be looking to break the logjam in the AFC Wild Card hunt, when they take on Baltimore Ravens (who boast the same record) as slim 2.5-point favourites.

The Dolphins currently hold an edge in the six-way battle for the second AFC Wild Card. With a 3-1 divisional record and a 6-3 record in conference play, Miami come out on top in tiebreakers, but can set themselves apart from the pack with a SU win over Baltimore.

It’s four straight wins for the Ravens against Miami, however, but Baltimore are 1-3 SU and ATS in their last four on the road, and have given up a whopping 27.6 points per game in their last five.

In other Week 14 NFL action, Kansas City Chiefs (7-5) look to keep pace when they visit Arizona Cardinals in a match-up pegged as a PICK. Pittsburgh Steelers (also 7-5) will look to stay in the AFC Wild Card race when they visit Cincinnati Bengals as three-point underdogs, Cleveland Browns (7-5 as well) face Indianapolis Colts as 3.5-point home favourites.
