Coral sign exciting sponsorship deal with Maxi ‘Maximus’ Hughes
Coral are extremely proud to announce an exciting sponsorship deal with Yorkshire-born super featherweight fighter Maxi Hughes.
“We are delighted to be on board with Maxi ahead of his British title eliminator with Martin Ward in Leeds next month. He was really unlucky not to get the decision in the first bout between these boxers last year but the Hughes camp are confident they can win the fight this time around,” said Coral PR manager, John Hill.
The 25-year-old is set for a British Title Eliminator rematch with Martin J Ward on April 11, after a closely contested first encounter which the judges ruled as a draw, despite ‘Maximus’ having seemingly triumphed in the bout.
Doncaster’s prolific puncher will soon be appearing live on Sky Sports, with his eagerly anticipated rematch featuring on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s Matchroom Sport Event in Leeds. The second bout between these two fighters is sure to be another captivating ring encounter, after their ferocious maiden matchup last December.
Boxing can be a cruel sport, and Hughes was given a harsh reminder of this in that previous draw with Ward. The Southpaw fighter was disappointingly denied a further step towards the British super featherweight crown by the controversial ruling of a majority draw from the ringside judges.
The scoring came as a shock, with Hughes having impressively downed his heavily favoured opponent in both the second and fourth rounds, but the Londoner was narrowly able to meet the referee’s count on both occasions, ensuring a draw was eventually secured.
With Ward still boasting an defeated boxing record, ‘Maximus’ will be aiming to set the record straight when he comes into this crucial rematch in April, having went into his last bout on the back of five straight victories.
This included two previous wins by TKO over Imre Nagy and then Qasim Hussain, with both opponents having been unable to continue after dominant displays from Hughes. Kakhaber Avetisian was the next man to be overcome before Hughes’ clash with Ward, as the Georgian fighter was outdone on points by the Yorkshireman.
Coral are very pleased to become a sponsor of such a determined and driven fighter, with both parties confident of capturing success in the ring over the coming months.
