Coral’s five stars for best England Ashes series bowler accolade
With the 2015 Ashes ever nearing, Coral writers provide cricket punters with top tips for the five-match series. We pick five stars from the top England series bowler market.
The hosts are unfancied at 7/2 to reclaim the urn from Australia (4/11 odds-on favourite to win), but can be quietly confident of making it a fourth straight victory on home turf against the Baggy Greens.
Moeen Ali – 10/1
Spinners tend to do well in Ashes’ on English soil, as Graeme Swann managed the most wickets out of both sides in the last series here, with 26.
Back in the famous 2005 series, meanwhile, despite his team being on the losing end, Australia’s Shane Warne managed a huge total of 40 dismissals, 16 more than old foe Andrew Flintoff in second place.
Ali, who has 33 Test wickets at an average of 32.60 from his first 11 matches, can certainly do some damage here too.
James Anderson – 2/1
With 403 dismissals to his name in the longest form of the game, Anderson is England’s leading Test wicket-taker and still going strong aged 32.
As Coral’s favourite tag in this market for him suggest, Anderson will certainly be a handful for the Aussies this summer. You can take odds of 7/2 for him to be top series bowler too.
Stuart Broad – 11/4
Anderson’s long-term attack partner Broad always gets fired up for the biggest occasions, and is in good form going into this series.
Broad impressed in the Tests against New Zealand and recently took seven wickets for his county club Nottinghamshire against Yorkshire. He was England’s top bowler in his side’s 5-0 thrashing last time out in Australia.
Ben Stokes – 9/2
One of the newest stars in England’s side will be all-rounder Stokes, who has impressed with both bat and ball in his first 11 Test matches.
New Zealand-born Stokes will be looking to live up to comparisons made with Flintoff, and is a decent shout to be best series bowler for his team.
Mark Wood – 7/2
Backing up the likes of Anderson and Broad will be Stokes’ Durham teammate Wood, whose raw ability could really trouble Aussie batters.
Coral’s betting tip – Spinners usually do well in England, so back Moeen Ali to be best England bowler @ 10/1
