Double-decker Dutch Van showdown in week four Premier League
Week four of the Premier League Darts sees a few colossal battles in Glasgow, including head-to-heads between Dutch duo Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld, out-of form pair Phil Taylor and Simon Whitlock, and Adrian Lewis faces second-placed Peter Wright.
The Netherlands players currently occupy first and third place in the league this season after three matches, with Van Gerwen (favourite at 11/10 to defend his title) looking to further extend his lead at the top against his compatriot. Back him at 4/9 to beat Van Barneveld.
MVG is the only player to have won all his matches in the current competition, whilst dropping just nine legs (average of conceding three per game), and you can back him at 11/2 for a 7-3 scoreline. Coral have a special market on a Dutch player to win the overall league at 10/11, which is easy money.
The night’s third match-up sees Phil ‘The Power’ up against Aussie Whitlock in what would normally be a battle at the other end of the table. Instead, the league’s bottom two are the only players yet to get off the mark and are evenly tied on leg-difference at -14.
Taylor has really struggled this term following his recent weight loss and darts changeover, but don’t count the six-time champion out just yet as he is odds-on to beat Whitlock at 2/5, and is still second-favourite to win the league at 7/2. The Wizard is an unlikely 4/1 to overcome ‘The Power’, and is favourite at 11/8 to finish the season bottom.
A potentially close fight between undefeated Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis of Stoke kicks off the night. The Scot’s confidence will be even higher than usual (which is difficult to imagine) having overcome Taylor the previous week and is a good shout at 13/8 to win again. Lewis is favourite at evens.
It promises to beat a tense fixture and could contain high scoring throws. This match has odds of 4/1 to produce the highest number of 180s for the evening in Glasgow. Lewis has the most 180s in the competition so far – Wright has the least – so back the former at 4/1 to register more than any other player in week four.
The remaining two fixtures feature another pair of Scots up against English opponents, with Robert Thornton and Gary Anderson facing Wes Newton and Dave Chisnall respectively. Coral are offering specials for all three Scotsmen to win at 11/1, or two (7/4), one (11/10) or none (10/3) to get victories.
Both Anderson (5/4) and Thornton (evens) are favourites to win their matches.
