Premier League Darts Judgement Night: Five in fight for safety

It’s Judgement Night in the Premier League Darts, so expect tension to be high in Manchester as five players can still be eliminated.

Just three points separate Kim Huybrechts, Adrian Lewis, Raymond van Barneveld, Peter Wright and Stephen Bunting, and none of them are mathematically safe yet.

Coral writers preview the action on Thursday, which promises to produce another evening of excitement.

Michael van Gerwen v James Wade
Table-topper Van Gerwen (11/10 title favourite) has been sensational this season again, and is still the only player undefeated after the opening eight weeks. MVG (1/2 to beat Wade) holds a two-point advantage over the rest of the field and is unlikely to be overtaken after Judgement Night even if he loses.

But The Machine (4/1) has also enjoyed a decent first half of the campaign, and currently occupies the play-off places. This duo have a close head-to-head record, but Mighty Mike has won the last four, so back him at 7/2 for a 7-4 victory.

Phil Taylor v Dave Chisnall
English duo Taylor (odds-on 8/15 favourite) and Chisnall (7/2) are also both safe from elimination, but it will still be a high-quality contest as they aim to finish in the play-off places.

The Power (3/1 to win his seventh PL title) boasts a 16-4 career head-to-head record over Chizzy, and is a tempting 13/2 for a 7-5 victory and thus go level on points with him.

Stephen Bunting v Kim Huybrechts
In the first elimination battle of the evening, Huybrechts will need a miracle if he is to survive. The Belgian has three points from his eight matches, and needs to win (6/4) and hope that Van Barneveld and Lewis lose convincingly.

Fellow Premier League debutant Bunting (5/4 favourite) just needs two legs to ensure survival, but a draw at 10/3 looks tempting.

Adrian Lewis v Peter Wright
Double world champion and 2011 PL runner-up Lewis (11/8 to finish in the bottom two) is also in a precarious position, as he is currently in the drop zone too on five points.

Jackpot (11/10 for victory), who is without a win in his last seven, will survive if he beats Wright (7/4), or if he draws (10/3) and Barney loses. Snakebite, meanwhile, will be safe with any result, even if the Scot is defeated, as long as Barney takes nothing from his duel with Gary Anderson.

Gary Anderson v Raymond van Barneveld
Defending champion Van Barneveld is Coral’s pick for elimination, as he is priced odds-on at 8/11, but has the slight advantage in that he sits just above the drop zone and can survive if he betters Lewis’ result and Huybrechts fails to win.

Barney (3/1 for victory) gained a crucial win over Taylor in Week 7, and will need to be in top form again if he is to upset 3/1 title chance Anderson (8/13) too. A draw is a tempting 4/1.
