Snakebite to strike at UK Open

Peter’s form looks right for the win
The Coral sponsored UK Open got underway on Friday, with things getting serious on Saturday. Butlins Resort Minehead provides the setting, and all the talk pre-tournament has been about Michael Van Gerwen.
The Dutch star was forced to miss Thursday’s Premier League round due to a back injury, and that also keeps him out of this contest. Fans in attendance, and those watching live on ITV, will be feeling let-down by that, but it does throw a grenade into the betting, meaning there’s real value to be had for those shrewd enough to pick the outright winner.
Wright in the record books
Peter Wright goes in as the player most likely to end as champion, according to the betting, and Coral have Snakebite priced up as 5/2 fav. Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld head the chasing pack at 5/1 a piece, but the Scotsman fully deserves his place at the top of the tree, and goes in solid form.
46-year-old Peter Wright, from Livingston – now based in Suffolk – smashed Adrian Lewis 7-2 on Thursday in the Premier League in Exeter, and was simply stunning in doing so. He recorded the second-highest televised average in darting history, and that win moved him joint-top of the league, alongside Phil Taylor on seven points.
Capable of even more
The popular showman took it all in his stride however, telling the Sky team after his win that the 119.50 average should have been better, despite its place in the records books. It probably could’ve too as he seemed to relax a touch when out in front.
That kind of form does not go unnoticed and punters will see a confident Wright as the smart option in Van Gerwen’s absence.
