Five shots to win the Open after the action so far

With Round Two of the Open at Hoylake underway, Coral consider a number of potential winners based on the progress of the tournament.

RORY MCILROY, 17/10

Overnight leader, the Northern Irishman dropped a shot on the first hole in the second round, though is battling with windy conditions, and a competitive field that will clearly smell blood. McIlroy who led after the first day of the Scottish Open, but then fell drastically knows he must be more consistent in Liverpool, and is currently the favourite to lift the Claret Jug.

RICKIE FOWLER, 12/1

The American has been tipped to make a big impression on British shores, and he relishes Links courses, being able to adapt to effortlessly to the wind. Residing in Jupiter, Florida, he will be hoping his game is out of this world, and has a credible chance if still in contention on the final day.

ADAM SCOTT, 14/1

Last year’s US Masters winner will be keen to add another major Championship victory to his belt. The World number one turned up at Hoylake a week early, such is his resolve and appetite for more success. Recording an opening round score of four under par did his chances no harm at all. Expected to be up there on the final day, the Australian could well be worth an each way bet.

SERGIO GARCIA, 13/2

Perhaps unfairly, the Spaniard has never won a major, though on his day, is still considered one of the most naturally talented golfers around. He tied for second at the Open in 2007, and looked back to his best after his first day at Hoylake as he shot a four under par.

TIGER WOODS, 50/1

Why not? There is no doubting the former World number one’s ability, and it was always thought he would return to form one day. He last won a major in 2008 – the US Open, but has suffered a dramatic drop in form, following troubles in his personal life. Evidence suggests the American is getting back to his best, and could well be worth an each way punt as he chases a 15th major.
