Mossvale Ace to come up trumps at Monmore
Henlow and Monmore take centre stage on Racing Post Greyhound TV tonight (Live on Sky 468, Freesat 250), and Mossvale Ace looks to hold outstanding claims of landing the 630m Open at the latter (20:41).
Derek Knight’s son of Ace High Rumble is a classy sort who has won six of his last 12 starts, and comes into the race on the back of a gutsy win at Romford when overcoming a bump at the first bend to score by 3/4 of a length.
Although he would ideally like to be drawn closer to the rails, Mossvale Ace has stacks of early pace when timing it right at the lids and doesn’t need to lead to win.
He is a strong stayer blessed with excellent middle race pace, and looks potentially a cut-above his rivals granted a clear run.
Vettel in the driving seat
In the 260m Open (20:26), T1 Tyrur Vettel looks decent value to exploit what looks a dream draw.
Corren Price’s dog has won five of his 15 starts in Open contests at the venue and has a terrific strike rate of four from five in the red jacket.
Although behind T5 Klockwork Konk last time out when fourth at Peterborough, Tyrur Vettel got baulked at the first on what was his first competitive start for a while.
He is entitled to come on a bundle for that outing, and has the ideal make-up to ping out and make all.
Puma can pounce in stayers’ contest
T1 Gowlane Puma is another that is well drawn and looks the answer to the 630m Open (21:26).
Pat Curtin’s dog has a 56.25 per cent strike rate at the track from the red jacket (nine wins from 16 runs), and got no luck in-running on his first try over the trip last time out from Trap 3 when missing the break and getting crowded at the first three bends.
There is no doubt in my mind that he is better than that, and now back on the rails he has enough early pace to turn handy and possibly lead at the first bend.
If doing so, the son of Skywalker Puma is going to be tough to hold.
20.41: T4 Mossvale Ace (NAP)
20.26: T1 Tyrur Vettel
21.30: T1 Gowlane Puma (NB)
Matilda can Waltz to success at Henlow
Moors Matilda rates a solid bet to cash-in on a drop in class and land the 550m S2 on tonight’s card at Henlow (21:56).
John Gardner’s bitch is a classy sort when timing it right at the lids, as she showed when producing a lightning 8.76 sectional to slam Blackroserocket by five lengths in an S1 at the track back in April.
That race was won in a time of 33.37, and that gives Matilda tons in hand on the clock in this lower grade affair.
She is also 1-1 in S2 company, and has a good record from Trap 3 having won three of her eight starts from it at the venue.
Sue can cash-in on class drop
Fernhill Sue is another taking a drop in class and looks the answer to the A2 (10:11).
Steve Hamilton’s bitch has won 13 of her 34 starts at the track and has a strike rate of 75 per cent from Trap 4.
She has been far from disgraced in Open races in her last three outings, and if timing it right at the lids looks the one to beat now returned to calmer waters.
Rose ready to bloom
Hamilton looks to hold major claims of landing a quick-fire double with Fernhill Sue’s sister Fernhill Rose in the A1 (10:26).
The daughter of Vans Escalade has a great draw in Trap 5 and is blessed with early pace as well as a strong finish.
She was last successful in an Open at the track five starts back, and has been running with great credit since without getting the best if luck in-running.
This is easier, and a reproduction of her best recent winning time of 27.46 would see Fernhill Rose win with plenty to spare.
9.56 T3 Moors Matilda (NAP)
10.11 T4 Fernhill Sue
10.26 T 5 Fernhill Rose (NB)
