2016 IPA Pool Tour in full swing with Welsh Open

Sean Trivass | March 12, 2016

After the amazing success of the World Pool Championships in Bradford, the IPA Pool Tour got underway for the 2016 season this Friday at the Holiday Inn, Newport, starting with the three-day Welsh Open backed up by both the Amateur and Professional events, and all supported by Coral!

A packed tour of over 220 players eagerly started off on day one with 22 level and true pool tables amid a cacophony of noise and colour, and an atmosphere you had to feel to truly take in.

More players than ever before, an eightfold increase in female participants, our first-ever wheelchair player, and a waiting list for the next event suggest the IPA must be doing something right.

The fast and furious blackball rule set help when it comes to attracting the very best to the tables. Although others (mainly those who lost at a guess) may disagree, we had no real shocks on day one, with the possible exception of Chairman Kevin Barton beating Billy Morton 8-6 in the pro event.

Marc Farnsworth, 7/2 tournament favourite with the sponsors, went through 8-5 against Ross Fernie on the livestream table in a quality match, and will now play Jordan Shepherd in the last 16 on Sunday morning. Tat should be an absolute cracker, worth a watch and perhaps a bet!

On Saturday, we moved on to the Welsh Open with Marc Farnsworth heading the betting for this even at odds of 5/1. Be sure to tune in via Coral to see all the action live.
