Super League: Hull FC host resurgent Huddersfield Giants in Super 8s

Hull FC are 3/1 with Coral to beat Huddersfield Giants, with both teams impressive last time out. The Airlie Birds were desperately unlucky to lose 30-24 to Wigan Warriors, having fielded a side made of mostly of youth players due to injuries to the majority of their seniors, also losing top scorer Tom Lineham and Jamie Shaul in the match.

However, Marc Sneyd could be key for the hosts and his positional kicking can give the Airlie Birds a vital weapon for field territory against the Giants and keep them pinned back in their own 40 metres.

The visitors, meanwhile, were outstanding as they swept aside Warrington Wolves in a comprehensive 48-10 victory as Aaron Murphy scored a hat-trick and centre Jermaine McGillvary surged to the top of the Super League try-scorer standings, as he crossed four times.

Both players are 8/1 and 6/1 respectively to score first, while for Hull they will, once more rely on youngsters with Jack Logan impressing in recent weeks, having picked up four points against the Cherry and Whites. Logan is odds-on at 10/11 to score anytime, while Jordan Rankin who also breached the in-goal area last time out, is 11/8 in the same market.

Respected rugby coach John Kear said recently that the Giants have got what it takes to win the Grand Final: “I think they do (believe they can win), there’s a growing confidence,” he said. “I’ve been impressed by Huddersfield’s season.”

After four wins from five in the Super 8s, the Giants have propelled themselves to third in the table and are credible dark horses to go all the way.

“Whereas they’ve seemed to peak a third of the way through the season before, this time they’ve built steadily and are playing some great rugby league,” Kear continued. “They’ve gone under the radar but they’ve been doing the job very efficiently.”

“They’ve got the best defence in Super League and they’ve got some attacking threat on the flanks,” Kear added. They’re a good attacking force, they’ve grown in confidence, and I think they really fancy their chances on the top four play-off chances.”

“They’re building, to beat Warrington at this stage of the season you’d think they’re getting it right at this stage of the season.”
