Wigan travel to south of France to take on Catalans in Super League
Following a disappointing defeat in the Challenge Cup last time out to Hull KR, Wigan head to Perpignon to take on Catalans in Super League.
The Warriors are odds-on at 4/6 with Coral to get back to winning ways and, if Leeds Rhinos lose against Wigan’s victors last time out, the Cherry and Whites will go top.
Joe Burgess crossed twice earlier in the season at DW Stadium in a 34-0 win over the French side, while in the same fixture last season, when Wigan ran out 37-16 victors, the winger picked up four points. Burgess is a 7/1 shot to score first.
However, Liam Farrell will not be fit to face the Dragons, after breaking his nose in four places in the defeat the Robins. Ben Flower could be recalled, however, and so could Matty Bowen at full back after scoring twice in the same fixture last season. The duo have decent 5/1 and 11/8 anytime scorer odds respectively.
Coach Shaun Wane welcomes a tough fixture following a setback last time out. “The Dragons have two fantastic half backs and a great back three and we know what to expect,” Wane said speaking of the hosts’ threats,” he said.
“We won there last season and can do so again. It was a brutal game last season. I congratulated referee James Child on his performance. We played tough and handled it well.
“The same again will do for me. We under-sold ourselves last week in the cup. The performance was not acceptable. We turned the ball over 17 times,” Wane continued.
“The way we performed with the ball was disappointing. Some big calls also went against us and it was frustrating. We move on. We set out at the start of the year to win three trophies and are now down to two. Every game from here on in will be treated like a cup final.”
Catalans will be hoping to hit back after failing to score in the reverse fixture in April. Both Morgan Escare and Michael Oldfield are expected to be key to any victory. They are 9/1 and 10/1 respectively to score first, while Elliot Whitehead, who crossed in the same fixture last season, is a good 13/8 shout in the anytime market.
Coral recommended bet: Elliot Whitehead anytime scorer @ 13/8
