Betway UK Snooker Championship - Day Eight - York Barbican

The PDC World Darts Championship has just come to a thrilling conclusion at the prestigious venue in London and it’s snooker’s turn to takeover, with the Magician aiming to retain his coveted crown.

Starting with a clash against Northern Ireland’s Pistol, Murphy is the heavy odds-on 8/15 favourite to overcome his top 16 rival and edge into the next round of the sport’s most illustrious non-ranking event.

Magician holds rampant head-to-head record

Allen may be a constant top 16 competitor, but the Magician has been on a different level in previous tournaments and has also enjoyed truly emphatic form in this potting pair’s recent competitive match-ups.

Betway UK Snooker Championship - Day Four - York Barbican

The 33-year-old reigning champion stormed to victory at the Alexandra Palace 12 months ago, destroying Australian Neil Robertson 10-2 to earn himself a career Triple Crown, having also reigned supreme at the Crucible back in 2005.

He will be confident of toppling Allen and moving towards retaining that trophy today with a dominant head-to-head over his first round opponent. From 15 previous encounters, which have produced 113 frames since their maiden meeting in 2006, Murphy has supremely won 11 of those clashes.

Having also prevailed in the previous three baize battles with Allen, the Magician will hope to wave his magic cue once again and is a tasty 6/4 to down his Northern Irish rival while also knocking in the highest match break.
