Previews and odds for today’s SW19 action
Things are getting serious in South West London as the third round of Wimbledon gets underway today.
This afternoon’s headline names are Roger Federer and Serena Williams. Both players have yet to drop a set.
Venus Williams is also on court today, as is John Isner, Milos Raonic and Madison Keys. Here’s Coral News’ guide for day five…
Roger Federer – 8.5 games handicap v Jan-Lennard Struff @ 10/11
This third round appearance is Jan-Lennard Struff’s best run in a Slam, but that says everything about his level compared to Roger Federer.
The Swiss maestro has been sublime thus far. He was borderline perfect in a straight sets second round win over Lukas Lacko.
Federer turns 37-years-old next month, but he should be on for another comfortable win this afternoon.
Kristina Mladenovic + 4.5 games handicap v Serena Williams @ Evens
Serena Willliams is still on the comeback trail as she makes her tour return following the birth of her daughter.
And so far the American has done what’s required in Wimbledon. But understandably she hasn’t reached her top level yet.
Serena should come through against Kristina Mladenovic, but the 6ft 1in French hitter boasts a forceful serve which could cause problems for a still somewhat rusty Williams.
Kiki Bertens v Venus Williams – Over 2.5 sets @ 5/4
One of the day’s most competitive contests should be Kiki Bertens versus Venus Williams.
Bertens has looked excellent so far, and beat Anna Blinkova 6-4 6-0 last time out.
Venus isn’t a five-time Wimbledon champion for nothing, but she’s now 38-years-old, and has been pushed hard in her opening two matches. Bertens represents a tougher opponent, and this should go the distance as it did when they met earlier this year in Miami.
