BOOKIES SAY NO MORE BETS ON BOND AFTER CRAIG QUITS

Bookmaker Coral will not be re-opening betting on the next James Bond following today’s news that Daniel Craig has quit the role. Coral suspended betting on his successor last Saturday, after there was a huge rush of bets on Tom Hiddleston becoming the next 007. The 35-year-old actor entered the betting at 2-1, but those odds crashed to 1-2 following the gamble, before Coral pulled the plug on the market altogether.

Before betting was suspended, Aidan Turner was the 3-1 second favourite, ahead of Tom Hardy at 4-1. Idris Elba was last priced at 9-1, with Damian Lewis and Michael Fassbender at 14-1.

“The news that Daniel Craig has quit James Bond certainly suggests that the Hiddleston gamble has some substance to it and that we made the right decision to suspend the betting. Earlier in the year there were bets placed on both Idris Elba and Damian Lewis, but nothing came close to the Hiddleston gamble,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.

“We don’t think that it’s a coincidence that the Hiddleton gamble came just days before Craig quit the role and if it lands, there will be a lot of shrewd punters getting paid out when an announcement is made,” added McGeady.
