Bookies sweating over hot weather gamble

Bookmaker Coral could be paying out on this July being the hottest ever, as the odds on it happening continue to tumble. With the gamble showing no signs of slowing down, the firm has cut the odds to even money from 6-4 that this July breaks past records and goes down in the history books as the hottest ever. Meanwhile, it’s 10-11 that the mercury rises to 100F or higher following the latest scorching weather forecasts.

Punters are also betting on it being the hottest summer on record at odds of 2-1, while it is 3-1 that the record high temperature in Britain of 38.5C is broken this year. With the heatwave expected to continue, it’s odds-on at 1-3 that a hosepipe ban is imposed anywhere in the UK this summer.

“The sizzling weather has left us in a real sweat as punters line up to bet on this July being the hottest in history and judging by the odds, it’s looking increasingly likely that we will be paying out come the end of the month,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
