Brit Awards betting suspended after Arctic Monkeys gamble
The bookmaker made the Indie rockers the red-hot favourites at 1-7 to win both gongs, before closing the betting.
Veteran artist David Bowie had also attracted huge support to win Best Male, and was backed into 1-4 from 8-11 to claim the prize, ahead of John Newman at 4-1 and Jake Bugg at 10-1.
Other acts backed to win their categories included Ellie Goulding, who was 1-8 to win Best British Female, and Bastille, who were 8-13 to win the breakthrough award.
“We’ve been forced to pull the plug on the Brit Awards betting following a significant gamble on all the favourites. The rush of bets on Artic Monkeys, David Bowie and Ellie Goulding suggests that somebody knows more than we do,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
