Leading bookmaker Coral has suspended its betting on whether Qatar will lose the 2022 World Cup following fresh allegations about the bidding process.
The bookie is betting on its replacement though, if it is taken away from the nation. USA are the Evens favourites to stage the tournament in eight years’ time, while 2002 joint-hosts South Korea are second best in the betting at 9-4.
Coral is also offering odds of 5-1 that England sensationally pick up the 2018 competition, as that could also be up for grabs again if bids are reopened for 2018 and 2022.
“We’ve stopped taking bets on whether Qatar will keep the World Cup as the latest allegations suggest it looks most likely now. We’ve also seen some interest in England getting the 2018 tournament which is not out of the question now according to the odds,” said Coral’s John Hill.
**Who will host the 2022 World Cup if taken away from Qatar?
Evs USA, 9-4 South Korea, 4-1 Japan, 8-1 Australia
