England’s Monday night Euro showdown to spark £20 million punt
England’s eagerly-awaited Euro 2016 knockout clash against Iceland tomorrow night is set to spark a £20 million patriotic punt, according to bookies, making it the highest turnover match of the tournament so far. Roy Hodgson’s men are 8-15 favourites with Coral to win in 90 minutes in Nice, and 1-5 to qualify for the quarter-finals, with Iceland 7-1 outsiders for the match, and 7-2 to progress.
Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge are both 9-2 with Coral to open the scoring, while England are 8-1 to go all the way in France, but 16-1 to lose a penalty shootout on Monday night.
“England v Wales was the biggest betting match of the group stage, but the game against Iceland promises to be even bigger, as punters have not only had all weekend to place their bets, but have all day Monday as well, and that should lead to turnover of £20 million, with most of that backing an England win,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
“Victory against Iceland will not only cost the industry millions, but will take England one step nearer the multi-million pound hammering we will face if this side can end 50 years of hurt next month, but even so, we don’t want to see more penalty pain for England, at least not yet!” added Stevens.
