Henderson odds-on to be next England captain

Jordan Henderson is odds-on at 1-4 with leading bookmaker Coral to be the next permanent England captain after reports suggest that Wayne Rooney could lose the role if Gareth Southgate is confirmed as the manager on a permanent basis. The firm make Gary Cahill second best in the betting at 7-1 to replace Rooney as the next captain of the national team, while Joe Hart can be backed at 8-1.

Coral is still betting on the next permanent England manager where Gareth Southgate is as short as 1-16 to get the job.  Arsenal Arsene Wenger is 14-1 to take the position and Roberto Mancini is in the betting at 20-1.

“If some reports are to be believed, it looks like Wayne Rooney’s days as England captain could be numbered so we have opened betting on who will become the next permanent skipper in which we make Jordan Henderson the hot odds-on favourite to take over the armband,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“Gareth Southgate is expected to interview for the manager’s position early next week and the betting suggests it would be a big surprise if he was not to get the job,” added Hill.
