Mayweather vs Pacquiao to spark 10 million pound gamble
In what is being billed as the ‘fight of the century’, leading bookmaker Coral has reported that the eagerly anticipated showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is expected to spark a £10 million pound betting bonanza across the industry. According to the firm, it is the biggest boxing event in the sports history in terms of turnover, and is in the top five sporting events of the year.
The weight of money is in favour of Floyd Mayweather, with one punter placing £7,500 on him this afternoon in a London shop. Mayweather is the 8-15 favourite to keep his unbeaten record intact, while Manny Paquiao is 7-4 to cause an upset. In the method of victory market, Mayweather is 5-6 to win the fight by decision or technical decision, while a stoppage for the American is 11-2. It’s 13-8 that the pair take part in a rematch in 2015 following their clash in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“This fight has sparked a monster betting bonanza and is going to smash all previous records in terms of betting turnover. We always knew this fight was going to be huge, but the level of betting interest we’ve seen so far has exceeded everyone’s expectations,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
“The money is now pouring in thick and fast for Mayweather, with the most popular selection being on him to win on points,” added McGeady.
