Punters happy to side with Europe at Gleneagles
Europe have been heavily backed with bookmaker Coral ahead of the 40th edition of the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles tomorrow. The firm has been happy to take on the hosts and still remain top price at 8/11 on the Europeans winning the competition for a third straight year, leaving them with a substantial six-figure payout if successful.
In the top points score market, Rory McIlroy is 7-1 with Coral to be the leading combined scorer, while the four-time major winner has been cut into 10-3 (from 4-1) to head the European points list following a flood of bets.
“We’ve been out to take Europe on this week as we feel America have been massively underrated. What that means is we are facing a huge liability if we have got this one wrong,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“Punters have benefited from what has been a tremendous year for Rory McIlroy so far in 2014 and they have sticking their faith behind the Northern Irishman this week in the points scorer markets,” added Hill.
