Scarborough Electrician shocks Coral with £74,844 accumulator win
An Electrician from Scarborough woke up on Saturday afternoon to discover he’d won £74,844 having placed just a £5 bet with Coral bookmakers on six football matches.
The man in his 30s placed the £5 accumulator bet on six matches on Coral’s “Winning Ways” coupon where he had to successfully predict that both teams would score and then also predict the winner.
The Electrician, who wishes to remain anonymous, said this morning, “I bet on football every week but this is the first time I have bet on this particular coupon. My friends who showed me the coupon so I decided to have a go. I was asleep on the sofa at home and when I woke up I realised I just needed Oldham to score and I was on for a massive win of £62,370 pounds. When that goal went in I was in a state of shock”.
“I went to the Coral shop and showed them my ticket to make sure that the bet was a winner, and they not only confirmed that I had won, but also told me that there was a special 20% win bonus on the coupon, so my winnings were even bigger, at £74,844 pounds”.
When asked what he would do with the winnings, the Coral customer said, “I haven’t a clue but I’m sure that my girlfriend will help me spend it.”
British bookmakers suffered multi-million pound losses on Saturday with the top 14 most popular teams in football bets all winning. Coral estimate that over £10 million pounds will have been won by football punters in betting shops across Britain, just two weeks after the betting industry suffered its heaviest ever losses on football totalling £30 million pounds.
“We have never seen football results like it and over the last two weeks punters have won over £40 million pounds from bookies across the land. Over 50,000 people have won sums of money of a grand or more for bets of less than a tenner. Since the turn of the year betting on football has been like printing money!”, said Coral Spokesman, Simon Clare.
