Strictly and Corrie among favourites for National Television Awards

The shortlist for the 19th National Television Awards has been announced today and bookmaker Coral make Strictly Come Dancing the 5-4 favourite to land the award for Best Talent Show, ahead of the X Factor at 6-4. Coronation Street looks set to pip Eastenders to the post to be crowned Best Serial Drama at 8-15, while the BBC’s flagship soap is 11-8.

Competing for the Best Drama trophy are Doctor Who and Downton Abbey, but despite the popularity of both shows, Coral make Broachchurch the 2-1 favourite to scoop the prize. The Great British Bake Off is tipped to win the award for Best Factual Entertainment at 6-5, while This Morning is odds-on at 4-5 to be crowned the Best Daytime programme.

“After beating the X Factor in the ratings war over the last series, it’s no surprise to see that Strictly Come Dancing is favourite to be crowned the Best Talent show. However, ITV should get revenge in other categories, as Coronation Street is expected to beat rival soap Eastenders,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
