Odds and preview of the NBA campaign
The first week of the 2018 NBA season has been punchy in more ways than one so far.
It all began last Wednesday when Eastern Conference favourites the Boston Celtics thrashed the Philadelphia 76ers 105-86.
This was followed by the reigning champions Golden State Warriors grabbing a narrow victory over a Russell Westbrook-less Oklahoma City Thunder.
But with plenty to talk about already, we’ve taken a look at everything you need to know from the first week of the hardwood campaign.
Last Saturday the Celtics lost their first match of the season to the ever-improving Toronto Raptors.
Kawhi Leonard scored 31 points as the Raptors came back from 25-18 in the first quarter to eventually triumph 113-101.
The Toronto-based team lead the way in the east with a 3-0 record.
However, last night the Warriors were denied a third-straight win in the Western conference by a Nikola Jokic-inspired Denver Nuggets.
Jokic topped the headlines for his 35-point salvo to down the Phoenix Suns and was influential in a dramatic 100-98 victory over Golden State.
Steph Curry did become the sixth all-time NBA 3-point scorer in this game, surpassing Paul Pierce.
LA Lakers feeling the heat against the Rockets
All the pre-season talk was how LeBron James could drag his new side into play-off winning contention.
However, James’ home debut was spoiled by the Rockets, which has seen the Lakers plummet to 14th in the standings.
The 115-124 scoreline suggests it was tightly-contested for the most part, but it wasn’t the basketball we were all talking about post-match.
In the fourth quarter Lakers pair Rajon Rondo, Ingram and Rocket’s Chris Paul were involved in a melee before punches were thrown.
Following the fall-out Ingram and Rondo have been banned for four and three games respectively. They will both miss games against the San Antonio Spurs, Suns and the Nuggets.
Paul has a two-game ban.
The Celtics are hoping to get back to winning ways against the Orlando Magic at 12:30am UK Time.
Kyrie Irving’s side are 1/11 heavy favourites to score the win. The Magic are 1-2 after three games and sit at 13/2 for victory.
Raptors are looking to extend their impressive start beyond the first three games. They are 10/11 to win -9.5 points against the Charlotte Hornets in the handicap betting.
Elsewhere the Spurs are at the Lakers. LeBron is 11/10 to net his first season win.
The Spurs are Evens to make it two wins from three games.
The galacticos of the NBA, better known as the Warriors take on the Suns at the Oracle Arena.
Curry, Thompson and Durant are at 10/11 to win the first half at -7. And they’re 1/12 in the match betting.
