Home comforts valued in weekend NFL action

Frank Monkhouse | 15 January 2017

NFL divisional round best bets

Punters have four live games from the NFL to solve over the course of the weekend as the 2016/17 season reaches the divisional round. There are some pulsating match-ups planned, and we look at ways you can profit from the madness with our lively betting tips.

Falcons Cowboys Football

Seattle Seahawks @ Atlanta Falcons

The Seahawks enjoy home advantage in this NFC Divisional round tussle at Georgia Dome. These sides were involved in a pulsating clash during the regular season, with Seattle claiming the bragging rights courtesy of a razor-thin 26-24 result back in week six.

Excuses can be made for that defeat however, and the Falcons have more than made amends since. There’s little between the pair on paper but the home team boast an explosive offense that can turn matches in their favour, and they averaged 33.8 points per-game. With experts predicting a straight shoot-out, that should be the difference between the two.

Our traders favour revenge, and we are too. 2/5 Falcons goes on the money line, while those with a tad more confidence can snap-up 19/20 -5.0 on the spread.

Titans Patriots Football

Houston Texans @ New England Patriots

A packed Gillette Stadium will provide the backdrop as the Patriots make for willing hosts to the Texans in the wee small hours of Sunday morning. The locals have every right to be confident going into this one, having dished-out a 27-0 thumping in the early part of the regular season.

Houston have been afforded a rather bulky looking 15-point head-start on the spread, perhaps with that week three result in mind, at 10/11 and that’s sure to have its admirers. It really doesn’t pay to oppose New England at home however, and certainly not at this time of year when they seem to be moving up a gear.

The 1/16 on the money line about a Patriots success tells its own story, and we can hardly complain, given the form, but I do make it a tighter affair than that. Trust Houston to rise to the occasion and keep themselves within a generous handicap.

Steelers Bills Football

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Kansas City Chiefs

It’s all about this AFC Divisional round in the first of a Sunday evening double-header, sure to keep followers on the edge of their seats. There was no drama about the last pairing of these teams however, with the Steelers running out comfortable winners back in week four, courtesy of a 29-point margin.

That seems to have been easily forgotten and there’s little between the two in the pre-match betting, with Coral offering Kansas as slight jollies at 4/5, while Pittsburgh trade 21/20. If this one goes anything like the last, that 21/20 will look massive.

The Arrowhead Stadium can be a game-changer however and, in an even match, the venue will prove to be the difference. The Steelers’ offence has failed to impress for the most part on the road this season and I’m with revenge -1 on the spread at 10/11.

Cowboys Eagles Football

Green Bay Packers @ Dallas Cowboys

Dallas boast home comforts at the AT&T Stadium for this crucial NFC Divisional round clash and take heart from a pretty one-sided 30-16 victory last year. The market points to a local win, with Coral offering up a useful 4/9 on the money line.

It’s little surprise to see things mapped out that way either as the Cowboys have handled themselves with real credit in front of their own fans this season and that confidence will be a major player in picking the winner of this one. Green Bay are a match for any opponent on their day, but they go without Jordy Nelson here. The wide receiver’s absence will be difficult to get over and I just don’t think the Packers will manage it.

Taking Cowboys’ form at the AT&T into account, Coral look to be on punters’ side when offering 19/20 about a very achievable -5 spread. If they are going to win again at home, they’ll do it in style.
