With a number of sports having taken place at the weekend, relive the main action in our weekend in pictures piece…

Premier League

In the live English top-flight football fixtures at the weekend, Tottenham hosted Liverpool, Hull City entertained Manchester United and West Ham United travelled to Manchester City.

Spurs deny Reds away win

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool - Premier League - White Hart Lane

James Milner opened the scoring for visitors Liverpool, while Sadio Mane had a goal disallowed before Tottenham snatched a late equaliser through Danny Rose. The Reds were perhaps unlucky not to take all three points, but the stats suggest the result was the fair.

Rashford saves the day for Jose

Hull City v Manchester United - Premier League - KCOM Stadium

While Man Utd dominated the game, it looked as if the match at the KC Stadium was destined for a goalless outcome after Hull defended to perfection. However, Jose Mourinho sent on Marcus Rashford for his first Premier League appearance of the 2016/17 season, and the teenage wonder delivered with an injury-time tap-in to seal the victory.

Sterling stars for City once again

Manchester City v West Ham United - English Premier League - Etihad Stadium

Raheem Sterling continued his fine start under new boss Pep Guardiola as he bagged a brace for Man City to help them beat West Ham 3-1. The England attacker opened and closed the scoring, though it wasn’t all plain sailing for the hosts.

Challenge Cup final

Hull FC v Warrington Wolves - Challenge Cup - Final - Wembley Stadium

Hull FC faced off with Warrington Wolves at Wembley in the rugby league Challenge Cup final, and edged them out 12-10 after coming back from 10-0 down to lift the trophy for the first time.

Cricket

England v Pakistan - Royal London One Day International Series - Second One Day International - Lord's

Both teams lost wickets early on their innings, but England ran out winners by four wickets at Lord’s to go 2-0 up against Pakistan in the five-match ODI series. Yorkshire superstar Joe Root was the key man for the hosts yet again with a brilliant knock of 89.

Formula 1

Belgium F1 GP Auto Racing

In an action-packed race at Belgium’s Spa circuit on the 2016 Formula 1 season’s return, Nico Rosberg cut the gap on Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to nine points after winning. However, the Briton took advantage from all the carnage around him to remarkably catch up from 21st to finish third after a whopping grid penalty.
