Capital One Cup odds

| 27.06.2013

The Capital One Cup give 92 teams from the four tiers of English football the chance to lift the famous trophy and the betting is often dominated by the big four teams.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool were all well-fancied last season however it was fellow Premier League side Swansea who upset the odds and deservedly won the cup in February.

Manchester City haven’t won the Capital One Cup odds since 1976

But it wasn’t the Welsh side who were the story of the Capital One Cup as League Two Bradford City were their opponents at Wembley.

The Yorkshire side beat Premier League sides Wigan Athletic, Arsenal and Aston Villa on their way to the final and were the first fourth-tier side to reach the League Cup final since Rochdale in 1962.

They may have lost 5-0 to Swansea but the whole city was proud of their achievement, even flying their flag from Bradford City Hall.

Swansea City won the 2013 Capital One Cup odds

Swansea’s victory in the Capital One Cup final was long odds-on but it also created history as the Welsh club became the first non-English team to win a major English cup since Cardiff held the FA Cup aloft in 1927.

A quick look at the betting for this season’s Capital One Cup betting shows that the two Manchester clubs along with Chelsea and Tottenham are expected to prevail.

Manchester United have won the trophy on four occasions, most recently in the 2009/10 season when they won 2-1 against Aston Villa.

Chelsea have also won the competition four times, including when they beat Liverpool in 2004/5, whilst ‘The Blues’ were on the losing end when fellow four-time winners Tottenham last won the trophy in 2007/8.

Manchester City have only lifted the prize twice, and haven’t done so for a long time; their most recent triumph was in 1975/6, just six years after their first.

Liverpool have won the Capital One Cup odds eight times

The most successful team in the competition’s history are Liverpool who won four consecutive Capital One Cups between 1980 and 1984.

They have won eight in total however won’t be adding to that tally this year as they lost 1-0 in the second round to Man Utd at Old Trafford.

As well as winning the competition the most, Liverpool also hold the Capital One Cup record for the biggest victory – 10-0 – and the odds will be very slim on that record ever being broken.

However the biggest win in a final is now held by Swansea after last-season’s Wembley triumph.
