Returning heatwave has bookies in a sweat
With much of the UK set to bask in glorious sunshine this week, bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds on the hottest day of 2013 taking place in the coming weeks. The current high for 2013 is 91F (33C), set last month at Heathrow airport, but Coral are now 4-1, from 8-1, that that mark is exceeded before the end of the year.
Coral are also odds on, at 8-11, that the temperature reaches 30C in August, and 8-1 that the magic 100F mark is hit in 2013.
“We took a record number of hot weather bets during last month’s heatwave, and escaped a payout when the mercury fell short of 100F, but punters now have a second chance of collecting as summer returns in style this week,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
