Ripon specialist Spinatrix can take Great St Wilfrid

| 16.08.2013

Spinatrix has won on her last two visits to Ripon and the rain in the second half of the week has given her a great chance of completing a quick hat-trick. The daughter of Diktat is at her best with some give in the ground and connections will welcome any more that falls before the start of the feature race at 3.30.

A bigger concern may be her draw in stall one but that could yet prove advantageous if the going softens up further. Louis The Pious has been well backed this week to provide trainer David O’Meara with a third successive win in the race following Pepper Lane in 2011 and 2012.

Stable companion Dick Bos is another who has a chance on his best form having sneaked in at the foot of the handicap whilst Baccarat and El Viento have also been supported.

Supporters of Spinatrix will be hoping for a form boost when Nameitwhatyoulike lines up for the consolation race at 2.50. Mick Easterby’s gelding looked likely to collect here last time out but was just overhauled by Spinatrix and Pearl Ice in the closing stages.

Singeur and Love Island were quietly fancied for the feature race so should run well from near the top of the handicap. Kevin Ryan is strongly represented with four runners, the pick of them possibly being Hamilton winner Hopes N Dreams.

David O’Meara’s Robert The Painter will be a strong favourite for the West Yorkshire Handicap at 4.05 after romping home by seven lengths at Beverley last month. Le Chat D’Or also won with plenty in hand at Ayr and could give the favourite most to do.

The bottom weight Mu’ajiza still has room for improvement and ran her best race when third to Silver Rime at Ayr. Mark Johnston’s daughter of Pivotal could be on to keep an eye on in the betting market.

William Haggas sends the inexperienced I Say up for the handicap at 5.10. The daughter of Oratorio was not particularly impressive when landing the odds at Carlisle but would not need to improve significantly to win this.

Supplicant surely only needs to turn up to collect in the 4.35 and Johnston’s Ambleside can follow up his Haydock victory in the closing handicap at 5.45.

Selections: 2.15 Pensax Lad, 2.50 Nameitwhatyoulike (nb), 3.30 Spinatrix (NAP), 4.05 Robert The Painter, 4.35 Supplicant, 5.10 I Say, 5.45 Ambleside
