Florenzi can lead Roma back to top of Serie A with win over Cagliari

| 25.11.2013

Roma have conceded just three goals in 12 Serie A games and they can beat Cagliari to nil to reward loyal punters at odds of 5/4.

They started the season by taking a remarkable 30 points from 10 games and Rudi Garcia’s side can go back to the top of Serie A with victory this evening.

Roma’s home record makes for sensational reading: five wins from six games at the Stadio Olimpico with only one goal conceded.

Bet on Roma to win to nil at 5/4

They did falter prior to the international break, but only in so much as drawing two games rather than winning them.

Garcia’s team were long odds-on to beat Sassuolo but the side from near Modena are no pushovers and have also taken points off Napoli and Lazio on their travels this season.

Teams can often falter when they know a win will take them to the summit of the league and doubters may point to that Sassuolo game – where they conceded a 90th minute equaliser – as Roma lacking focus.

However i Lupi’s defensive record shows that concentration is one of their key attributes; they have only conceded three goals in 12 games.

Bet on Alessandro Florenzi to score first at 4/1

The home side will be without captain Francesco Totti for tonight’s match however Daniele De Rossi will be available after recovering from a foot injury.

Whilst Totti’s absence is a blow, the talismanic striker hasn’t monopolised the goals and midfielders Adem Ljajic, Miralem Pjanic and Alessandro Florenzi have all contirubted heavily.

The latter has four to his name and is 4/1 to score first. He has scored Roma’s first goal twice already this season.

The last four meetings between these sides in Rome have each featured three or more goals and over 2.5 goals is 8/11 this evening.

However four of Roma’s home games this season have seen two or less goals and there is reason to think that the Evens about under 2.5 goals is the right bet on a night which could be a nervy and tense affair.

This evening’s match has a sombre backdrop after a cyclone killed 16 people on the Cagliari recently.

A minute’s silence will be held for those who lost their lives on the Sardinian island and the visitors will be suffering mixed feelings as they try to generate enough energy for the visit to Rome.

There is every chance that their players will respond with a performance full of heart and spirit but it will be a difficult situation.

Cagliari’s players do have some positive history to draw on for the game as they have actually won their last two away matches against Roma.

However Roma were only sixth last season, and seventh the year before, and are a very different prospect now.

The home side have already pledged some of their gate receipts to Sardinia, but that may be the limit to their charity and the home side should sit on top of the Serie A table by the close of play.
