Arsenal bidding to boost firepower with want-away Man Utd frontman

| 11.12.2013

Arsenal’s lack of ammunition in the final third is a topic of conversation constantly cropping up and attempting to tackle the second half of the season without bolstering their stocks would be a dictionary definition high-risk strategy.

Coral rank Arsenal’s Premier League title odds at 2/1, second only to Manchester City’s 13/8 price, despite holding a six-point lead over the super-wealthy Citizens.

Yet, with Olivier Giroud’s only cover coming in the form of much-maligned Nicklas Bendtner and inexperienced Yaya Sanogo, it’s clear that the Gunners require another top talent to score the goals that will ensure they don’t fade away in the New Year.

The severity of the situation is clear (well, maybe to everyone except Bendtner) and Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez may be the man Arsene Wenger turns to in his quest to snare a leading hitman.

Chicarito’s lack of game time at Old Trafford is a frequently mooted source of frustration for the Mexican and, indeed, a player with his finishing prowess should be starting more games than he is bench warming.

David Moyes has afforded the Little Pea seven starts this term, but only three have come in the league, with Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney the obvious first-choice pair.

The Red Devils’ need to sell is not high, but if the Gunners tabled a substantial offer – something they’re believed to be able to do – Moyes’ arm could be twisted, especially with his desperation to inject some creative talent into his midfield.

With Arsenal missing out on primary target Luis Suarez in the summer transfer window, Hernandez could prove a fitting alternative.

While his trickery and contribution to all-round play is nowhere near the calibre of Suarez’s, Chicarito is excellent in the opposition box, where his movement and, above all else, instinctive finishing ability guarantee goals to any side willing to give him time to get them.

Spending big on acquiring the Manchester United man’s service could be decisive in Arsenal ending their trophy drought.
