My Tent Or Yours to match Kribensis with Champion Hurdle win

| 28.12.2013

There are now joint favourites at the head of the Champion Hurdle odds, with the first two home in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton both priced at 3/1 to come out on top at March’s Festival.

It is My Tent Or Yours that is the big mover up the Champion Hurdle betting after his victory at Kempton, where he sat in the slipstream, stalking his prey for the majority of the 2m contest, before gradually asserting up the run in.

Many will be expecting The New One to reverse positions at Cheltenham, especially after a slight blunder at the final flight, which certainly did his chances of victory no favours.

Meanwhile, the renowned Cheltenham hill has arguably already found My Tent Or Yours out once before when he was out-battled by Champagne Fever in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, when travelling like the winner for much of that contest.

This remains his sole start at Cheltenham, unlike The New One, who is already a four-time course winner in his career and would benefit from the likely quicker pace.

If My Tent Or Yours can win the Champion Hurdle, he would emulate the great Kribensis from the 1989/90 jumps season, who landed the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and Christmas Hurdle before completing the hat-trick at Cheltenham.

The slight worry is that neither of these contests have proved great trials for the Champion Hurdle in the last decade.

With Champagne Fever embarking on a novice chasing season, My Tent Or Yours will be the highest-placed finisher from last season’s Supreme Novices’ lining up in the Champion Hurdle.

However, the best finish this horse has achieved in the Champion Hurdle in the last decade is third, while only Punjabi has completed the Fighting Fifth and Champion Hurdle double in this period and he won the former at Wetherby rather than Newcastle, as the race was moved for a season.

Better news does arrive as seven-year-olds have won the Champion Hurdle more than any other age group in the last decade and this is the age My Tent Or Yours will be at Cheltenham.
