Australia to complete ODI series win in low-scoring Sydney clash

| 18.01.2014

Australia only needed three matches of the Test series to regain the Ashes and even the return of Stuart Broad to the England bowling attack is unlikely to prevent the Aussies now wrapping up the one-day series with two games to spare.

It is 4/11 that Australia move into an unassailable 3-0 series lead in Sydney and they have only lost one of their last six ODI matches at the ground.

England won’t have too many fond memories of their last ODI in Sydney either, as it very much resembled their defeat in the latest match of this series.

On that occasion, England posted a mammoth 333/6 in their 50 overs, with Jonathan Trott out at the death after making 137.

However, Australia, with Mitchell Johnson batting at four, chased down the target with four balls to spare.

What is interesting though is that this is the only instance in the last nine ODIs at Sydney where the team batting first has scored quicker than a run a ball

Therefore, it may pay to back the team batting first to put less than 300 runs on the board, rather than go beyond this total.

The other interesting bet is identical to our preferred pick for the last match at Brisbane and that is that Australia will post the highest score after 15 overs.

This bet obliged in the second ODI despite big-hitting openers Aaron Finch and David Warner barely contributing and the price for this eventuality has barely risen from 8/15 to 1/2.

England still haven’t posted a higher score after 15 overs of an ODI since the group stages of the last Champions Trophy.

An England victory to keep the series alive can be backed at 2/1, with Eoin Morgan 4/1 to be England’s top batsman a decent price, given his century in Brisbane and the fact he is expected to be passed fit here.
