Juventus stay strong favourites to lift Europa League
Coral have cut Serie A champions Juventus’ odds of winning the Europa League to 9/4 after the Old Lady brushed aside Turkish team Trabzonspor by an aggregate scoreline of 4-0.
Antonio Conte’s team won 2-0 home and away in the last 32, with on-loan Southampton striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo scoring in each leg. The Italian heavyweights will face another team from their country in Fiorentina in the next round.
Vincenzo Montella’s Viola are 12/1 shots to go all the way after knocking out Danish outfit Esbjerg 4-2 on aggregate. Fiorentina beat Juventus at home in Serie A earlier this season, so their upcoming tie is by no means a foregone conclusion.
Rafa Benitez saw his Napoli side end Swansea’s Europa League run in the first knockout round with a 3-1 win in Naples. The Neapolitans remain 6/1 second-favourites to lift the trophy.
Napoli tackle European regulars Porto, who won this competition under Andre Villas-Boas in 2011, next and the Portuguese giants are relative outsiders at 20/1 for glory again this season.
Tim Sherwood’s Tottenham, meanwhile, are now 15/2 chances, in from 10/1, for the Europa League outright after a 3-2 aggregate victory over Dnipro. Benfica, who were losing finalists to Chelsea last term, are their last 16 opponents.
Portuguese league leaders Benfica are 11/1 shots to go one better this season and win the trophy. There’s also an all-Spanish tie between the last back-to-back winners of this competition Sevilla (20/1 to win this edition) and basement La Liga club Real Betis (25/1).
Surprise packages Red Bull Salzburg and Ludogorets Razgrad caused upsets by eliminating European giants Ajax and Lazio respectively. Austrian outfit Salzburg (9/1) travel across the border to Swiss Super League side Basel (33/1).
Bulgarian upstarts Razgrad (40/1) will be looking to repeat their winning formula against Spanish heavyweights Valencia (16/1). The last 16 line-up is completed by ties pairing outsiders Lyon (28/1) and Viktoria Plzen (50/1), and AZ Alkmaar (40/1) and Anzhi Makhachkala (80/1) together.
