Baggies brilliant value for the drop as winless run under Pepe Mel goes on

CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

West Brom are an attractive 15/8 with Coral to suffer Premier League relegation as their wait for a win under Spanish head coach Pepe Mel goes on. The Baggies have the same odds as Sunderland, who have two or three games in hand on their other rivals in the scrap for survival.

This attractive price is based on the premise that Albion’s next four games are against fellow sides in the bottom eight. All are thus winnable, but a sense of victory is still missing under Mel after seven attempts.

Moreover, West Brom have mixed records when paired with their upcoming opposition. The Baggies have never beaten Swansea away in the Premier League, but have won on three of their last four trips to Hull.

Albion have also been victorious in one of their last four games in all competitions with Cardiff at The Hawthorns.

Norwich have recently had the better of encounters with Mel’s team, winning four out of five, but West Brom have beaten the Canaries at Carrow Road on three of the last four occasions they have met there.

Three of this quartet of crucial fixtures are away from home, however, and the Baggies have been particularly poor on the road this term. Albion have recorded a solitary Premier League win when travelling, and amassed just nine of their 25 points from games where they have been visitors.

If odds on West Brom for the drop look decent value, then basement club Fulham are in dire straits. A 3-1 loss at Cardiff has effectively consigned their top-flight stay to an end.

Although still four points from safety, Felix Magath’s men are 1/6 to be relegated and even-money favourites to finish the season bottom.

Despite a morale-boosting win over Fulham, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Bluebirds are still odds-on at 4/9 to go down.

Crystal Palace, who have never stayed up in the Premier League era, are third-favourites for relegation under Tony Pulis at 13/8 after losing to Southampton.

Chris Hughton’s Norwich are 9/4 after dropping home points in a draw with ten-man Stoke.

Bar those sides and Sunderland, it’s 14/1 on Hull, 16/1 on Swansea and 20/1 for each of West Ham, Aston Villa and the Potters to be dragged back into the dogfight.

Mel must break this habit as only wins will secure Baggies safety for another season. They are 4/11 to stay up, but smart money will be on Albion’s slump continuing and that other promising price. Punters should definitely take 15/8 on their relegation.
