Evidence points to winner for Doyle in Rosebery Handicap
Channel 4 cameras are at Kempton on Saturday for three races including the featured Rosebery Handicap at 2.55. Sir Michael Stoute rarely has a runner before the Craven meeting so it may be significant that Vital Evidence turns out here.
The four-year-old runs in the colours of Khaled Abdullah and will be ridden by his retained jockey James Doyle. The gelding won by eight lengths in heavy ground at Windsor in October and has been raised 11lbs by the handicapper.
The main danger could be George Margarson’s Rebellious Guest who set a new track record here recently. He took his chance in the Winter Derby last weekend but was unlucky in running and was a never-nearer seventh.
Richard Hannon Jnr is embarking on his first season in charge and could strike with Trumpet Major in the Listed Magnolia Stakes at 2.20. The son of Arakan was fourth in the 2000 Guineas in 2012 behind Camelot but struggled last season at the highest level.
Modernstone has been a model of consistency for William Knight and got within three-quarters of a length of Grandeur in the Winter Derby Trial. The filly has not been out of the first four in her last eight races.
Hoof It attempts to get back on the winning trail in the six-furlong handicap at 3.30. Mick Easterby’s popular seven-year-old ran on strongly at the finish of his last start at Lingfield behind Tarooq.
Remarkably, he has not won since his Stewards’ Cup success in 2011. He ran some good races last season including finishing fourth in the Group 2 Champions Sprint Stakes.
Lancelot Du Lac and Baddilini look dangerous from lower down the weights. Baddilini was just held by Upavon here last time out.
John Gosden usually has his string well forward at the start of the season and Zerfaal can land the maiden at 4.05. More was expected of the son of Dubawi on his debut at Newbury last August when only sixth to Barley Mow.
Selections: 1.50 Tiggy Wiggy, 2.20 Trumpet Major, 2.55 Vital Evidence, 3.30 Hoof It, 4.05 Zerfaal, 4.40 Hasopop, 5.50 Noble Protector
