Grandeur eased for Coral Winter Derby after wide draw setback

| 20.03.2014
CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Grandeur has been eased to 6-4 (from 5-4) by the sponsor for Saturday’s coral.co.uk Winter Derby, after the ante-post favourite was handed the potentially tricky draw of stall 14 today. Last year’s winner Farraaj is 5-1 (from 6-1) for a repeat win, with Godolphin’s Windhoek next at 7-1 (from 8-1).

“Grandeur has been well-backed all week for Saturday’s race, but his supporters have been dealt a blow following the wide draw, and rather than start odds-on, which looked possible at one stage, we’ve eased him back out to 6-4,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

Looking further ahead, Coral report a busy day on the Qipco 2,000 Guineas ante-post front, with favourite Australia 5-2 (from 7-2), and Kingston Hill cut to 8-1 (from 10-1) after connections confirmed the Racing Post Trophy winner would be aimed at the Newmarket Classic. Also backed for the race was Lat Hawill, the once-raced maiden winner cut to 12-1 (from 20-1).

“This time of year often sees activity in the Guineas’ markets, as contenders are stepped up a gear at home, and while the support for Australia and Kingston Hill are easy to understand, the gamble on Lat Hawill caught us more by surprise, his 2-y-o career consisting of just a – albeit impressive – Newcastle maiden win, but he’s clearly giving off the right signals to someone,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
