Liverpool’s famous five great value for goals on England duty

| 05.03.2014

If you fancy Liverpool’s contingent of England internationals to carry their sensational club form into representing their country, then Coral is the place to come and bet.

Until the 8pm kick-off time, punters can take full advantage of two special scoring odds on Reds players.

A price of 3/1 says more than one Kop idol will grab goals for the Three Lions against Denmark. Odds of 4/6 are also available on any one of the Liverpool quintet on Roy Hodgson’s roster finding the net.

Two of the five are guaranteed starters as midfielder Steven Gerrard is national captain, and the England boss confirmed right back Glen Johnson will earn his 50th cap after injury ruled Kyle Walker out.

Leading English marksman in the Premier League Daniel Sturridge will also hope to be named in the XI after netting 18 times in the top-flight this term. Back him at evens to score anytime and 4/1 for the opening goal.

Winger Raheem Sterling and midfielder Jordan Henderson have somewhat stiffer competition for starting spots.

Dependable James Milner, Tottenham’s Andros Townsend, recalled Arsenal attacker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Southampton pair Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez are all standing in the way of Sterling.

Three goals in his last four Premier League games make his form superior to all other wide contenders, however.

Back 19-year-old Sterling, promoted from the Under-21 setup for this Danish Viking raid on London, to mark his second cap by scoring anytime at 11/4.

Henderson could be a go-to option for Hodgson if he needs midfield running. On top of old guard Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick, young trio Ross Barkley, Tom Cleverley and Jack Wilshere will all be wanting to get on.

Hodgson can make six subs, so with other areas of the team to look at – like an anticipated debut for teenager Luke Shaw at left back – he cannot use all these names.

Barkley has not long returned to Everton colours from a broken toe, however, and there was a public backlash to Cleverley’s selection in the form of an online petition demanding he be dropped.

While Henderson is a maybe to earn an eighth senior cap and 5/1 for a goal anytime, skipper Gerrard should be set for penalty duty. Talented, tricky wingers like Sterling could easily get change out of former Blackburn and West Ham defender Lars Jacobsen, who is 34 now.

Gerrard is a tempting 10/3 to score anytime against Denmark, so punters should make the most of these prices before the market switches to in-play betting.

An England victory is odds-on at 4/6, so if the Three Lions are to bounce back after two straight Wembley defeats, then Liverpool’s fingerprints will surely feature heavily on a win.
