England to beat depleted Peru at 3/1 for new Coral customers

| 30.05.2014
CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Coral have turned the odds around especially for new customers to 3/1 (1/3 in the normal market) for England to win their first of three World Cup warm-up matches against Peru on home turf at Wembley.

To put this into perspective, the South Americans have not tasted victory in their last six games international games – losing four of those – and a very youthful and inexperienced squad has been named. They have not won in almost a year, when they beat Ecuador on June 7th 2013.

Roy Hodgson’s side, on the other hand, besides suffering two recent home defeats, have not lost in their last 13 matches. They have available their full 23-man roster for the World Cup, as well as the seven back-ups.

On top of that, new Peru boss Pablo Bengoechea will be without a number of key and experienced players for the trip to London, in what will be his first game in charge of Los Incas. The likes of Claudio Pizarro, Jefferson Farfan, Juan Manuel Vargas, Carlos Zambrano and Paolo Guerrero are not in the squad.

Of the current Peruvian call-ups, the top scorers for their country have managed just two, so they will no doubt be goal-shy in the 90,000 capacity stadium.

England and Peru have played each other just twice, and not since 1962, with both beating the other apiece. The South Americans won the first 4-1, while the Three Lions claimed a 4-0 victory three years later, so take odds of 7/4 for the match to contain over 3.5 goals again.

A price of 14/1 says England can record that latter scoreline again. Jimmy Greaves hit a hat-trick that day, so look no further than in-form forward Daniel Sturridge to repeat that feat at 20/1.

The Liverpool player scored 25 times in all competitions this season for his club, and is evens to get a goal anytime. Wayne Rooney, meanwhile, is odds-on at 8/11 in that same market.

This will be Hodgson and his England side’s final match on home soil, before heading off to America where they will face Ecuador followed by Honduras in Miami.

England’s first World Cup game is against Italy on June 14th, which they 11/5 to win. Their other Group D opponents are Uruguay and Costa Rica, and they are priced at 2/1 to top that pool, or 8/15 to qualify for the knockout stages. The Three Lions, meanwhile, are 25/1 chances to win the tournament.
