Leicester keeper Kasper in-demand after stalled contract talks

CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Denmark international keeper Kasper Schmeichel is a reported target for Premier League duo Arsenal and Southampton, as well as falling European giants AC Milan, and will be available on a free transfer in the summer. Manchester United and Olympiakos have also been mentioned to be in the hunt.

Schmeichel’s side Leicester City won the Championship this season, thus gaining promotion to the top-flight. They will play in the Premier League for the first time since the 2003/04 campaign, and Coral give them special odds of 2/5 for them to stay up next term, or 15/8 to get relegated.

Famously known as the son of Red Devils legend Peter, the 27-year-old has now made his own reputation in the Championship with his current club, as well as previously with Leeds United.

Former Manchester City stopper Schmeichel, however, has yet to be offered a new deal by the Foxes, despite helping to guide them to the second-tier title. He signed a three-year contract with Leicester when signed from Leeds, but it runs out this summer.

On being asked about a potential deal, he remains positive, and recently said: “I have never hidden how much I enjoy to play for Leicester. It is a fantastic club, where I have been happy from the first day.

“I can just sit and wait for the club right now, there is nothing else I can do at the moment,” he added.

Manager Nigel Pearson has also spoken positively about his current player, and signs do point towards an offer being made by Leicester. However, have the club left it too late?

“When you prove that you are a capable and stable keeper through two difficult seasons in the Championship, you will be in demand,” Pearson said.

“But Kasper knows what he gets from us, and the important role he has in the Premier League. We can only hope makes the difference.”
