Is it time to have a bit of Dutch Courage?

| 16.05.2014

Dutch Courage is among a strong looking book of rides for Ryan Moore at York today and looks to hold solid claims in the Listed 1m fillies’ contest (3.15).

The daughter of Dutch Art improved with every run as a juvenile, winning a 6f maiden at Pontefract in good style before showing a nice turn of foot to beat Malachim Mist by a length in a 7f nursery at Newmarket.

The Richard Fahey trained filly was then far from disgraced when pitched into Group 3 company on her seasonal reappearance and finishing sixth of 11 to J Wonder in the Fred Darling at Newbury.

Dutch Courage shaped as if needing the run that day, showing pace to chase the leaders before keeping on without being unduly knocked about to be beaten 5 1/4 lengths.

It was a promising comeback after 273 days on the sidelines, and one which suggested Dutch Courage may well be suited by a step up in trip to today’s mile.

This contest represents a slight drop in grade, and it would be no surprise if Dutch Courage took advantage and returned to winning ways.

The Sir Michael Stoute trained Radiator narrowly heads the betting and is looking to bounce back from a disappointing final run as a juvenile.

The son of Dubawi could finish only fourth, beaten 10 lengths, behind Miss France when sent of the 11/10 favourite for the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket.

However, the winner has since gone on to land the 1000 Guineas, and Radiator had previously looked a smart prospect when bolting up by 15 lengths in a Lingfield maiden.

Folk Melody is another that has to enter calculations.

The Godolphin owned filly looked a promising sort when showing a nice turn of foot to win on her juvenile debut at Newmarket, and was far from disgraced when eighth of 15 to Sandiva in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket on her seasonal reappearance.

The daughter of Street Cry dwelt at the start in the latter before keeping on to be beaten 4 3/4 lengths and is entitled to strip much fitter with that run under her belt.
