Royal Ascot heroine heads sponsor’s betting for Coral-Eclipse

| 24.06.2014

Last week’s impressive Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner The Fugue heads the sponsor’s betting for further top level success in the Coral-Eclipse at 9-4. The Qipco 2,000 Guineas winner and St James’s Palace Stakes second Night Of Thunder is 11-4 second favourite, ahead of another Royal meeting runner-up, Verrazano, at 4-1.

Other potential Sandown runners, whose participation depend upon differing requirements for the going for this weekend’s Irish Derby, include Kingston Hill, 14-1, and True Story, 16-1.

“Having beaten the colts in the Irish Champion and again last week, The Fugue sets the standard for this year’s Coral-Eclipse, with her opposition headed by the Classic-winning Night Of Thunder, who will be stepping up in trip and taking on his elders for the first time in what should be an intriguing encounter,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“Of course we would love to see Australia attempt the Derby-Eclipse double last achieved by the great Sea The Stars, but it looks as if he will heading to the Curragh. However Coolmore have always been great supporters of the race, and in Verrazano they could be represented by a top class colt who will add further spice to this traditional clash of the generations,” added Stevens.
