Yarmouth Preview: Derbyshire ready to deliver
Trainer Kevin Ryan is enjoying a terrific season, and Derbyshire looks capable of providing him with another winner in the 1m handicap at Yarmouth today (3.15).
The son of Green Tune was sent off at short prices on all his three runs as a juvenile, and shaped with promise on each occasion despite failing to trouble the judge.
Derbyshire is clearly well thought of, as he has since been gelded, and should be up to winning races of this nature from an opening handicap mark of just 64.
Etaab looked a filly to keep onside when scoring last time out, and is taken to shrug aside top-weight in the 1m handicap (3.50) before going on to better things.
The daughter of Street Cry shaped with bags of promise when sixth on debut at Newmarket, and had no difficulty in readily winning a 7f maiden at Lingfield last month.
Etaab made all and only had to be pushed out to score by 2 1/4 lengths, and the step up in trip to a mile looks sure to suit.
In the 7f handicap (4.20), Not Rigg is a fascinating contender on his first start for in-form trainer Nick Littmoden.
The gelding opened his account over a mile at Nottingham on fast ground last summer when trained by Gary Harrison, winning by a neck off a mark of 70 in a class 5 contest.
Since then Not Rigg managed to make the frame just once, but his handicap mark has fallen markedly as a result and the son of Henrythenavigator now gets into this lower grade class 6 affair off a career-low rating of 59.
It’s also interesting that his new handler has saddled two winners and a runner-up from his last three runners, and they were all former Gary Harrison trained inmates who had a similar profile to Not Rigg.
