Pool can pay dividends with Coral as Commonwealth swimming closes

| 29.07.2014

Swimming at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow draws to a close this evening, with the last seven gold medals up for the grabs. It’s mainly Freestyle and Medley races, so bet on these multi-discipline events with Coral.

Women’s 400m Freestyle
Wales’ Jazmin Carlin is 5/4 to complete a distance double after winning the 800m, but Lauren Boyle (New Zealand) is out for revenge and is a narrow 11/10 favourite. Australian pair Brittany MacLean (13/2) and Bronte Barratt (8/1), scooped bronze over 800m and 200m respectively, but will want to do better here.

Men’s 50m Freestyle
Ben Proud (England) is odds-on at 4/7 to emulate female counterpart Fran Halsall’s sprint double, as he took the 50m Butterfly title earlier in the Games. It’s the Aussies who will push him hard here, however, with Cameron McEvoy (4/1) and James Magnussen (11/2) also in the hunt for gold.

Women’s 50m Backstroke
Georgia Davies (Wales) will dive in for this sprint as the odds-on favourite at 8/15. England’s Laura Quigley will want to replicate her victory in the British Championships, however, and is 12/5 to snatch gold. Australian swimmer Emily Seebohm is a 7/2 chance, and will also mount a challenge.

Men’s 200m Individual Medley
Daniel Tranter has been biding his time and this is the Aussie’s special event and optimum distance, making him the 6/4 favourite. Dan Wallace (Scotland) took the 400m title, and 3/1 to record a double. This is a hugely competitive contest, with double fly champion Chad Le Clos (South Africa) at 15/8 and 200m Freestyle winner Thomas Fraser-Holmes (Australia) worth considering at 9/2.

Men’s 1500m Freestyle
Ryan Cochrane of Canada is a massive 1/10 odds-on favourite to add to his 400m Commonwealth crown in this discipline. World junior champion Mack Horton (Australia) is the best of the rest at 7/1. Young Welsh swimmer Dan Jervis looks tempting at 11/10 to pick up a medal, as he is in the mix for bronze with Scotland’s Stephen Milne, who impressed in qualifying.

Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay
The Aussie girls are strong odds-on 1/12 favourites for gold, with England out at 6/1. Scotland and Wales, meanwhile, are both 5/1 to pick up a medal, and will battle Canada for bronze.

Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay
Expect an interesting finish to the swimming in Glasgow, because Australia’s odds for their men to take this title have drifted from 1/5 to evens. England go off as odds-on 10/11 favourites, because Aussie breaststroker Christian Sprenger has been in poor form amid rumours of a shoulder problem. There’s no way past these two nations here, with South Africa seemingly destined for bronze.
