Worcester Preview: In-form Scu can double up

| 16.07.2014

In-form jockey Tom Scudamore goes to Worcester this evening for just two rides, and looks to have leading claims of coming away with a double courtesy of Garnock and Weather Babe.

Garnock runs in the 2m 7f maiden hurdle (8.30) and can make the most of the 7lb she receives from main market rival Man Of Steel to land the spoils.

The David Bridgwater trained mare made a winning debut in a bumper at Stratford last September and has run well to be placed in three starts over hurdles this season.

In the last of those over 2m 6f at Newton Abbot, the six-year-old stayed on well without being unduly punished to finish a six length runner-up to Ebony Empress.

The pair pulled 36 lengths clear of the third to give the form a solid look in the context of this contest, and the way Garnock finished off the race suggested the extra furlong this evening will suit.

Weather Babe ran really well to finish runner-up on her belated reappearance and looks capable of giving weight all-round and going one better in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle (9.00).

Trained by Scu’s boss David Pipe, the mare went down by 3 3/4 lengths to the well-handicapped Scotsbrook Cloud at Market Rasen where her cause was not helped by a stumble at the last.

That was the six-year-old’s first run for 109 days, and Weather Babe looks sure to come on significantly for it.

The daughter of Storming Home has to give away 13lb and upwarsd to her three rivals, but is the class act in the line-up and the only one with winning form over the 2m 4f trip.

The other bet that appeals on a trappy card is Fintan in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle.

The Laura Young trained gelding got back to winning ways when scoring over course and distance three starts back, and has since run really well to be placed twice of his current mark of 90.

The 11-year-old finished runner-up to Cash For Steel at Newton Abbot in the last of those, and that form has been franked by the third home Strong Wind scoring next time up.

Another plus is that Fintain is a dual course and distance winner, and with Richard Dunne in the saddle taking 3lb of his back, the son of Generous looks sure to go well.
