Kempton Preview: Authority looks a Good bet

| 13.08.2014

Good Authority has become dangerously well-treated and looks the one they all have to beat in the 7f handicap at Kempton this evening (9.20).

The Karen George trained is a course and distance winner whose last success came in a class 4 handicap at Goodwood last June off a mark of 85.

The seven-year-old went on to finish a decent seventh of 17 to Magic City in a class 3 race at the same venue off 88, and now drops down into class 5 company for the first time in over two years off a rating of just 71.

That is whopping 14lb below Good Authorty’s last winning mark and gives the son of Chineur outstanding claims at the weights.

Good Authority also shaped well last time out when sixth of 12 to Scottish Glen on the turf at Ascot off 83, and looks a winner waiting to happen off a 12lb lower all-weather rating.

The only concern is that Good Authority has a wide draw to overcome in stall 14, but given his come-from-behind run style that is not a big a problem as it could have been.

Windy Citi was an ultra impressive five-length winner over course and distance nine days ago, and is impossible to oppose under a penalty in the 1m handicap (7.20).

The Chris Wall trained filly sauntered clear from the two marker to win easing down by five lengths off a mark of 60, and has been given a revised rating of 75 by the assessor.

It’s therefore no suprise to see connections turn out Windi City under a 6lb penalty, as that means the daughter of Zamindar is able to race off just 66 and is officially 9lb “well-in”.

Trainer Paul Cole has a decent strike rate with his runners at the track, and that makes Rotherwick of interest on handicap debut in the 7f nursery (8.20).

The colt shown shown progressive form in three maiden runs. and found only Dutch Connection too good last time out in a decent class 2 contest at Goodwood.

The winner, who scored by 2 1/2 lengths, looks a useful prospect and Rotherwick does not looks harshly treated off an opening mark of 79 if building on that effort.

7.20: Windy Citi
7.50: Fret
