Taghrooda set to stroll to Yorkshire Oaks success

| 21.08.2014
CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Taghrooda looks in a different league to her rivals in today’s Yorkshire Oaks (3.40) and can justify cramped odds en route to a crack at the Arc.

The John Gosden trained daughter of Sea The Stars is unbeaten in four starts and one of the best middle-distance fillies seen for many a year.

After running out an ultra-impressive 3 3/4 length winner of the Investec Oaks at Epsom, Taghrooda put in a career best effort against the boys and older horses when winning the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot last time out.

Taghrooda was held-up in the last pair in the latter, before making smooth headway two from home and showing a devastating turn of foot to shoot clear inside the final furlong and slam Telescope by three lengths.

It was a mightily impressive performance, and the stunning victory meant she became only the third filly to win the Group 1 contest.

The three-year-old is now officially rated 125, and that puts her 12lb and upwards ahead of today’s rivals.

It makes the race look a formality for Taghrooda, and it looks an ideal warm-up for the Arc for which she is currently the 4/1 favourite with Coral.

The one to chase Tagrhooda home could well be the Aidan O’Brien trained Tapestry.

The filly had some very useful form as a juvenile, winning twice at the Curragh and those successes included the Group 2 Friarstown Stud Debutante Stakes.

The daughter of Galileo disappointed on seasonal reappearance in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, but has since run well to finish sixth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot before finishing an unlucky second last time out to stable companion Bracelet in the Irish Oaks.

Tapestry stayed on well in the latter to go down by just a neck after her saddled slipped, and it’s hard not to believe that she would have prevailed if the tack hadn’t failed.

A repeat iof that effort should be good enough to see Tapestry secure second place behind the impossible to oppose Taghrooda.
