PSG ready to kick-start Ligue 1 campaign against Lyon

| 21.09.2014

In three of the last four meetings between PSG and Lyon in Ligue 1, the former have won to nil. The French top-flight champions and hosts are odds-on favourites at 1/3 for victory again, and 21/20 to do so without conceding.

Both sides go into this match after a shaky start to the season, having gained just two wins apiece from their opening five fixtures. PSG are still unbeaten, though, so a best-case scenario for Lyon is seemingly a draw at 4/1.

The capital side and the Kids, as Lyon are nicknamed, represent two of France’s most famous clubs, but the former’s rise has coincided with the decline of the latter.

Not so long ago, from 2001-2008, Lyon literally dominated Ligue 1, winning seven consecutive top-flight titles, and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League on three occasions.

However, the newly-found riches of the Parisians have seen them take over the mantle, and they themselves have collected the last two most prestigious domestic trophies. Coral rate PSG ridiculous odds-on favourites to win again at 1/14.

Last season, Lyon finished 28 points behind Laurent Blanc’s men in fifth place, and their price of 15/2 for victory at the Parc des Princes is tempting, but the achievement is highly unlikely.

They last won away against them in 2008, in a 3-2 thriller, so take odds of 90/1 if you think they can somehow beat PSG again by that scoreline.

Recent head-to-heads have been low scoring, though, with those last three victories in the Parisians’ favour being 1-0 results. Back them at 13/2 to win by that margin once more.

Where would a PSG preview be without Swedish superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic? He has been in magnificent form this term so far, despite his side’s slow start, scoring five times in three games. Ibrahimovic also netted twice in his last appearance against Lyon, so he is 2/1 to bag a brace or better again and 9/4 to get the first goal of the game.

Edinson Cavani has also been on target against his club’s upcoming opponents (three times), and is 4/1 to score two or more.

For the visitors, back Alexandre Lacazette, who netted last term in the French League Cup verses PSG. The 23-year-old already as four goals in all competitions this term, and is 3/1 to pick up another anytime here.
