Dirk Kuyt keen on Premier League return? Saints are suitors

| 23.10.2014

Ex-Liverpool cult hero Dirk Kuyt is being linked with a move back to the Premier League to a club that have done a fair bit of business with the Reds this summer, Southampton (2/1 top six chances).

The Saints, who have made a terrific start to the campaign after being tipped to struggle, find themselves in third place in the table and three points ahead of the Anfield club after eight games.

Kuyt’s Dutch compatriot Ronald Koeman could now attempt to snap up the former Liverpool forward in attempt to help his new side sustain a freshness. Despite being 34 now, though, Kuyt can still do a job, and played a role in the Netherlands’ recent run to third place in the World Cup.

The Dutch attacker now plies his trade for Turkish giants Fenerbahce, as he has done since joining from the Reds in the summer of 2012. In all, he has played 99 times for them in a number of positions, scoring 27 times, and has won the Super Lig, Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup with them.

With Liverpool, meanwhile, Kuyt was lauded by fans for his tenacity and dynamism that helped the club reach the Champions League and FA Cup finals in his tenure, as well as finishing second in the league. His only trophy on Merseyside was the League Cup under Kenny Dalglish in 2011/12.

Kuyt has played a big part in his club’s campaign so far as well, starting all six Turkish top-flight games so far on the wing. However, he is out of contract at the end of the season and so could be snapped up for a very cheap price in January.

Koeman reportedly wanted to take Kuyt back to his former club Feyenoord before he moved to Fenerbahce, when the manager was in charge of the Eredivisie side, but has a much better chance of doing so now.

The forward’s experience in England is unquestionable, having played 286 times in all competitions for the Reds over six seasons, and the Dutch centurion could welcome a return to the Premier League.
